In the previous slide we see the
therapist sitting with himself in an echo of the first cartoon of
him sitting with Mr Jones wearing an overcoat. The therapist
is saying ‘I sense I am hiding something'. We then see the
therapist again with Mr Jones saying ‘I sense you are hiding
something’ and we are back to the beginning again in that the
therapist is again inviting Mr Jones to reveal something of
himself. This circular narrative underpins the idea that the
therapist has to begin to work something through in their
countertransference in order to help the patient work something
through in the transference.
