Cambridge University Psychiatry Society

The Cambridge Psychiatry Society is going strong into 2010, its second year.

In the Autumn term 2009 we hosted a successful CBT workshop, and hope to build on this success. We have an Eating disorders workshop planned on 21 January 2010, and have invited Max Pemberton to come and talk in March 2010. We hope to have some film nights in early 2010, and have selected some potential films. Our student organisers have lots of fresh ideas. See our facebook group for further details. Student organisers for events this year are Julia Hawkins, Will White, and Clare Holt. Students have been supported by Meinou Simmons, vice-chair of the Psychiatric Trainees' Committee.

The Psychiatry Society has also responded to the Clinical Dean's initiative of improving mental health awareness in the Clinical School, especially amongst medical students. Our student organisers have also taken part in a mental health awareness educational half day at the Clinical School. We have compiled a mental health information leaflet for medical students, which has been distributed in paper form to medical students by the Clinical Dean. More detailed mental health information compiled by our members will also be put on the ER web in early 2010. We see this as part of our remit as we seek to reduce stigma and support positive mental well being as a society.

We have made formal and informal links with other Psychiatry Societies, and we enjoy being part of a network of enthusiastic young societies.
