Mentis, the St George’s,
University of London, Mental Health Awareness Society was
established officially in July 2009, but it existed as a concept
since late 2008 when a group of medical students came together with
a common vision – to raise a greater awareness of mental health
issues and promote the specialty of Psychiatry amongst the George’s
student population.
Its core aims:
- To
promote a greater awareness among students of how they view:
psychiatric patients, their own mental health & the mental
health of others
- To
enhance a greater understanding of mental health issues; especially
when it comes to helping those in need, ending stigma and knowing
who to turn to when help is sought
- To end mental health
and all other forms of discrimination
- The promotion of psychiatry
as a future career
Mentis is still a
relatively young and small society run by a dedicated team of
students whose core aim is to share their love of psychiatry with
anyone who is willing to listen.
