The Royal College invites doctors at all stages of their career to join us for the Supporting Psychiatrists to Sustain a Healthy Working Life Conference which is sponsored by the Psychiatrists Support Service.

Through talks, workshops and debate, this conference will provide opportunities for delegates to review their work-life balance, provide tips on making the best of new technology to save time, and strategies for developing good working relationships. There will also be a choice of workshops that explore the real-life experiences of psychiatrists and their well-being.

  • Psychiatry and Occupational Medicine: Strangers, or friends who haven't met yet? - Dr Max Henderson, MSc PhD MRCP MRCPsych HonFFOM Consultant Psychiatrist / Hon Senior Lecturer
  • Perspectives on coping with life as a psychiatrist - Dr Julia Bland, MA, MBBS, MRCPsych, Consultant Psychiatrist DocHealth service, Honorary Consultant Psychiatrist, South London and Maudsley NHS Trust
  • Mentoring and Coaching: Setting positive direction in Psychiatry - Dr Jan Birtle, Royal College Specialist Advisor in Mentoring, Associate Medical Director Worcestershire, Consultant Psychiatrist and Medical Psychotherapist

This conference will be opened by the College President, Dr Wendy Burn, and closed by the College Registrar, Dr Adrian James.

Workshops will also be held by Dr Gwen Adshead, Dr Paramabandhu Groves, Dr Santosh Mudholkar, Dr Sarah Paget and Dr Maya Roberts.



Fees include catering during scheduled programme breaks but do not include accommodation.

***Trainee/Retired  rate applies to RCPsych members/associates at the following grades; Advanced Trainee ST4-6 & Higher Specialist Trainee (SpR) & Subsidised rate applies to the following grades; trainees registered as Pre-Membership Psychiatric Trainees/Trainee Registration with the College and are on a CT1-3, ST1-3, LAT or FTSTA Psychiatry rotation, Foundation Years or Student Associates & RCPsych members registered with membership on the Retired or Reduced subscription rate of 50% or less. (RCPsych members/associate only).
