We are pleased to announce that the topic for the day will be ‘Rising mortality among UK addicts: challenges and solutions across borders’

Public mental health combines public health principles with the best evidence from mental health sciences, especially in Prevention. When we speak of prevention, it is about maintaining both psychological and physical health, and our absolute priority is to address the 17 years' (and rising) premature death among our patients with severe mental disorders, learning disabilities and addictions. Our PMH Network will therefore focus this year on the rising mortality of people who misuse alcohol, substances and / or some prescribed medication. We will identify where across the UK these rates are rising, and try to explain why - and most importantly how to reverse these increases. Whatever language we use - public health emergency does not overstate it - these are preventable alcohol and drug related deaths. Clinicians, service users, policy makers and leaders will find this meeting essential in their work to apply proven solutions to a neglected group of people.
