HoNOS-LD: Background
The HoNOS-LD is derived from the generic HoNOS. Its development
arose out of the shared wish of clinicians, academics and
professional organisations to develop a brief outcome measure for
people with learning disabilities with mental health needs. The
instrument’s development has been underpinned by close attention to
ensuring wide consultation. Development and testing over three
years has resulted in an instrument with eighteen items.
Field trials involved satisfactory testing of acceptability,
inter-rater reliability and sensitivity to change. A standardised
training session was organised for each pilot site. Over 25 sites
received formal training with 16 trusts providing the final full
data set of 372 completion of HoNOS-LD at T1 and
T2 (T1 + 3 months). The main support for the
project came from North Warwickshire NHS Trust and CORE.
