OP57. The evidence base for the management of imminent violence in learning disability settings
In 1998 the Royal College of Psychiatrists produced a guideline
(Occasional Paper OP41) for the management of imminent violence in
mental health services. This report covers the same ground in
relation to learning disability settings, and presents the evidence
base on this important topic. The evidence is presented under
headings such as the ‘environment’, ‘staff training’,
‘organisational issues’, ‘physical intervention’ (including
seclusion), and ‘rapid tranquillisation’. For each section,
hypotheses were drawn from the original report, and the search for
the evidence was based on those hypotheses.
