The Royal College of Psychiatrists Improving the lives of people with mental illness

Asking about autism

AutismThe college’s new autism champion, Dr Ian Davidson, is asking Members to help the college understand the strengths and weaknesses of current arrangements relating to autism.

He has published a survey which asks you to critically identify what works and what doesn’t work for you as a psychiatrist, and for the individuals and families you support.

Dr Davidson said: “The more Members who complete the survey, the better. We’d love to hear from you, whatever stage of career you’re at. It will take about 15-20 minutes to complete but the feedback will be so useful for the work we’re doing.”

The results will the college’s Autism strategy, and help us to develop education and training resources.

Background

In July this year, Council reviewed the progress with the Championing Autism programme and agreed it should continue for another three years, expanding the remit across all divisions as well as faculties and special interest groups.

Dr Davidson was appointed as College Autism Champion and it was agreed that the Campaign would be hosted within the newly established Neurodevelopmental Special Interest Group chaired by Tom Berney.
