The Royal College of Psychiatrists Improving the lives of people with mental illness

Faculty of Perinatal Psychiatry

Training in Perinatal Psychiatry

Trainers / Educational Supervisors

The Perinatal Faculty is keen to support the expansion of experience and training opportunities in Perinatal Psychiatry. To this end we endorse the College's drive to develop Foundation Doctor Taster sessions. Here is a summary document detailing the typical experience a Foundation Doctor could expect in a Perinatal Psychiatry Service.

We have also provided draft job descriptions for trainees in Perinatal Psychiatry to assist Educational Supervisors in drawing up job descriptions for their own posts. Intended learning objectives are included and can be modified to meet local circumstances.

Draft curriculum

The Section has developed a draft curriculum for training in Perinatal Psychiatry which has the support of The College. It is currently being reviewed by GMC and if approved will lead to the award of Endorsements in higher training for Perinatal Psychiatry.

Representatives

We have co-opted a Psychiatric Trainee Representative, Dr Andrew Cairns and have contact with the Psychiatric Trainees Committee via our PTC representative, Michelle Gilmore. Trainee queries can be addressed to Dr Jaya Ahuja or via The Section contact Lauren Wright.
