The diagram below illustrates how
the service works. Or view a PDF version here.
- The service welcomes contact by
e-mail as well as by telephone.
- If possible, have your
College number at hand when you call as the service is
available to College members only.
- The service is confidential.
However, if doctors disclose an issue that threatens personal or
professional safety, the Royal College of Psychiatrists have a
professional duty of care to report it to the appropriate
agency/organisation.
- The phone number is dedicated to
the Psychiatrists' Support Service so that your call does not need
to go through the main College switchboard.
- Doctor advisors will not be based
in the same geographical area as the caller.
- The service is sometimes contacted by doctors who are
concerned about a colleague. The support service manager will need
to speak to the person concerned to be able to offer appropriate
advice and support.
