Evidence-Based Treatment Pathways - Self-assessment

Implementing the Five Year Forward View for Mental Health (July 2016) sets out a national objective to expand access to high-quality mental healthcare. As part of this work, a set of Evidence-based Treatment Pathways (EBTPs) are being developed by the National Collaborating Centre for Mental Health.

For each EBTP, an implementation guide will be produced to provide guidance on establishing, developing and maintaining services.  The aim of the EBTPs is to help ensure that service users receive timely access to NICE recommended mental health treatment.

The EBTPs will provide:

  • an evidence based treatment pathway
  • advice and support on measuring performance against the treatment pathway
  • an on-going programme of assessment and support for quality improvement.

NHS England has asked the Royal College of Psychiatrists Centre for Quality Improvement (CCQI) to collect data from services as part of a self-assessment to see how well they are delivering timely access to evidence-based treatments. Mental health teams in England will be participating  in self-assessment against the relevant EBTP.

Participating services or clinical commissioning groups can expect to receive a report detailing their service performance. Aggregated reports for each EBTP will also be published, allowing services or clinical commissioning groups to benchmark themselves against national averages.

Below are the EBTPs currently being measured by self-assessment. These pages also include guidance notes and further important milestones.
