Accreditation Programme for Psychological Therapies Services (APPTS)

The Accreditation Programme for Psychological Therapies Services (APPTS) is an accreditation programme which builds on the National Audit of Psychological Therapies (NAPT) standards and findings.   Membership is open to all services in the UK whose primary function is to provide adult psychological therapies in the community. This includes services managed by the NHS, voluntary sector and private sector, as well as services that do, and do not, participate in the National IAPT scheme.

APPTS is designed to promote good practice and support individual services to improve areas recommended by the national audit.

Services participating in the accreditation programme will be measured against our standards, helped to identify areas of strength and points for improvement, and supported to share good practice within our network.

What standards are used?

A concise manual of standards has been developed, drawn from key documents, including NICE and SCIE guidance and IAPT policy documents.  The rich data collected from NAPT also helped to inform the standards.  A thorough consultation process took place to include the views of front-line therapists, service users, carers, managers, and other interested groups such as national charities and professional bodies. These standards are regularly revised to ensure they are up to date with current legislation, guidance and good practice. APPTS Standards

What costs are involved?

Services participating in APPTS pay an annual subscription fee which is based on a sliding scale according to the number of whole-time equivalent therapists working in the service. APPTS is not-for-profit and does not receive funding from any other source, so the cost of subscription helps to cover the costs of running the programme.
