Health and well-being of people aged 65-84: a European study

 

What mental and physical health problems are experienced by older people?

The College is running the UK arm of a European study about the health and well-being of older people.  500 people aged 65-84 will be interviewed about their physical and mental health and about how this affects their lives; they will be interviewed a year later to find out if and how things have changed.  This information will provide a better understanding of the experiences and needs of this population so that services can be better adapted and improved to meet their demands.

Background

Due to the lack of reliable information about the extent of physical and mental health problems experienced by older people, the degree to which this affects their lives is unclear.

 

 

Research questions:

  • How common and how severe are physical and mental problems in this population
  • How do these problems affect their quality of life and participation in the community
  • To what extent does this population access health services
  • How do these problems change over the course of one year
