Representation
There is trainee representation on the Faculty Executive
committee. The Psychiatric Trainees' Committee have a
representative on the Faculty Executive and, from October 2008,
there has been a higher trainee representative co-opted
onto the Faculty Executive committee.
The higher
trainee representative will be expected to attend the Faculty
Executive meetings, get feedback from the general adult higher
trainee peer group and provide them with updates, arrange a
trainees' slot at the Faculty conference, and arrange an
annual higher trainees' conference. It is expected that the term
would be for one year, but the outgoing representative would remain
involved initially during the handover process.
If people would like further
information, please email.
Elections
Recent elections were held for the
position as higher trainee representative and Dr Ashish Rana
was elected as the new Higher Trainees’ Representative from
November 2010.
Peer group
There is a peer group for higher
trainees. To join the peer group, please email. If you have
already joined and have a username and password, you can view
messages and post further messages here.

Conference
Higher Trainees’ Conference 2011 - Report from
Ashish Rana, Higher Trainee Representative
Following a very successful meeting in York in
2010, we chose Bristol for this year’s meeting in order to make it
accessible for people all round the country. I am very happy to
announce that most of the delegates ranked the day as ‘excellent’
in their feedback. They have also suggested future topics and
venues which will be taken into consideration while planning next
meeting.
The Theme of the day was Squaring the
circle: Improving services in times of austerity. This,
along with its programme and the useful networking
opportunities, attracted the majority of trainees. Delegates not
only enjoyed the great facilities of the Clifton Pavilion but were
also able to stroll through Bristol Zoo after their lunch. They
described it as a value for money event. Speakers included
current and immediate past Chairs of the Faculty, the
Registrar of the College, College Leads on Commissioning &
Mental Health Strategy and the current Treasurer of the
College.
Presentations
I would like to acknowledge and thank the
Current Immediate Past Chairs of G&C Faculty for their
continued guidance, help and support in organising this meeting.
This event would not been successful without the efforts of our
organising committee members - G&C Faculty Manager Candace
Gillies-Wright, Dr Dheeraj Rai, Dr Scott Hall, Dr Tarun Sehgal
& Conference Administrator Liz Cowan. I am eager to meet all
higher trainees coming to G&C Faculty Meeting at Newcastle next
month in trainees’ meeting to discuss pertinent issues as well as
any suggestions about the future events.
If you have any questions about the meeting, please contact the
Faculty Manager, Candace
Gillies-Wright Tel: 020 7235 2351 ext 6234
If you have any suggestions for topics or venues, please contact
the higher trainee
representative.
