Dr Jana de Villiers

Chair of the Intellectual Disability Faculty, Royal College of Psychiatrists

Dr de Villiers is the Forensic Network Clinical Lead for Intellectual Disability and is the Consultant Psychiatrist for the High Secure Intellectual Disability Service for Scotland and Northern Ireland at The State Hospital, Carstairs. She established a pilot Forensic Autism Assessment Service with a colleague, to provide advice to agencies managing individuals with autism who were engaging in serious offending behaviour. As Forensic Network Clinical Lead, she offers assessment of individuals who pose a high risk to the public where autism may be contributing to the risk posed or impact on treatment approaches. She regularly presents at national and international conferences on forensic aspects of neurodevelopmental disorders. She has developed and delivered training on forensic aspects of autism on behalf of the School of Forensic Mental Health.
