Dr Ken Courtenay

Chair, Intellectual Disability Faculty

Dr Ken Courtenay is a Consultant Psychiatrist in Intellectual Disability for Barnet, Enfield and Haringey Mental Health NHS Trust. He graduated from the University of Dublin in 1987 and trained as a GP.

He has worked in an integrated Community Service for Adults with Intellectual Disability (ID) in Haringey since 2006. His clinical interests are mental health in ID, Autism, and ADHD in ID. He is an honorary Clinical Lecturer in UCL.

Dr Courtenay was elected to the Faculty Executive Committee in 2010, serving as Academic Secretary and elected to Vice-Chair in 2016.

In the Trust he has served as Clinical Director for Community Services and is currently Trust Lead in Revalidation and Appraisal. Internationally, he is Secretary of the European Association for Mental Health in Intellectual Disability and a former Chair of the Section of ID of the European Psychiatric Association. He has published and presented on various topics on ID.
