Chair, Psychiatric Trainees Committee
Dr Rosemary Gordon is the current Chair of the Psychiatric training committee (PTC). The PTC is a committee of trainee representatives from across the UK elected by local trainees in each division. She has been a member of the PTC since 2018, elected as co-secretary in September 2019, secretary in 2020 and elected Chair for the 2021/2022 academic year.
Dr Gordon was brought up in a small town in the Scottish Borders before going to Edinburgh University to study medicine. She graduated from Edinburgh University in 2012 then undertook her foundation training in NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde. Following foundation training, she completed her GP training in South East Scotland, achieving her MRCGP in 2017 and then worked as a GP locum while also doing a staff grade post in psychiatry. Eventually, deciding psychiatry was where she really wanted to work, she went back into training in August 2018.
She finished her RCPsych membership exams in January 2020 and is currently an ST4 in southeast Scotland.
She has had several leadership roles during her training, including the local deanery trainee rep for core psychiatry and the trainee rep on the LMC as a GP trainee.
Gordon is particularly interested in trainee wellbeing and the trainee workforce within psychiatry. She has organised the Scotland CT1 welcome event over the last two years, is part of the Choose Psychiatry Scotland committee and is the trainee representative on the RCPsych in Scotland devolved council and the RCPsych portfolio committee. She also organised the second RCPsych Trainee’s Conference, ’Breaking Barriers to Recruitment and Retention’.
Outwith psychiatry, she spends her time competing with her local pipe band and has her associate membership of the British Association of Teachers of Dance.
Dr Gordon is incredibly proud of the work the PTC has done in the last few years, increasing national engagement and plans for the year ahead to continue to strengthen these ties and focus on local engagement. She would love to hear from trainees so please don’t hesitate to get in touch.
