Access to Medicine Student Event
The Careers Team at RCPsych partnered with The Careers Office to run an in person access to medicine day for high school students. Events like this are important in supporting the wider work of the careers team, encouraging people to choose psychiatry. The event aimed to inspire students from a widening participation background to consider applying to medicine. The Careers Office identified the 67 students who attended from various schools across London and surrounding areas. They heard from medical students and doctors from a range of medical specialties including psychiatry and Dr Suhana Ahmed was one of the speakers.
They also heard from inspirational patient speaker Onome. Workshops to teach students about personal statements and interview preparation formed part of the day and a senior admissions tutor spoke about the application process. The BBC filmed and a segment will appear on Morning Live.
