Event Information

The theme of the conference is 'madness, the mind and politics, exploring the relationship between psychiatry and politics'. Topics will include:

  • Capitalism, socialism and mental health
  • Psychiatry in the Soviet world and under National-Socialism
  • Politics and economics of anti-psychiatry
  • Peter Sedgwick and anti-psychiatry
  • Psychiatry in a post-truth world
  • Identity politics in mental health

We invite submissions around but not limited to the following themes:

  • Capitalism, socialism and mental health.
  • Psychiatry in the Soviet world and under National-Socialism
  • Politics and economics of anti-psychiatry.
  • Peter Sedgwick and anti-psychiatry
  • Psychiatry in a post-truth world
  • Identity politics in mental health.

Abstracts should be in word document format and should not exceed 250 words.  Presentations should be 20 minutes in duration plus 10 minutes for questions at the end. Workshops should consist of 3 presentations.

Please submit abstracts by Wednesday 1 May 2019 to isabel.brinsden@rcpsych.ac.uk 

The successful submissions will be informed by Thursday 30 May.
