Secure mental health hospitals are a high cost, low volume service accounting for a fifth of the mental health budget in England and Wales. The Shannon Clinic provides secure hospital care for Northern Ireland with much shorter inpatient stays.

This presentation describes the profile of patients who receive treatment at the Shannon Clinic and explores the implications of shorter inpatient durations on patient outcomes and public safety.
