ArtSIG Workshop Play with Drawing

Event Information

Play With Drawing began as a series of workshops and has now developed into an online project.

We are constantly hearing that we need to think creatively, come up with innovative solutions in these uncertain times of rapid change. From the tech industry, science and business through to daily life, new ideas come from new ways of thinking. Not only is drawing a way to access creativity, the physical action of pencil or paint on paper is a pleasurable experience and the benefit is the same for complete novices as well as experienced creatives.

Everyone struggles with the inner voice that tells us “ I can’t do it… it’s a stupid idea…a waste of precious time… I’m no good at it…everyone else is better at it than me …I’ll be rubbish…” A Play With Drawing session gives participants permission to take part in an activity that turns the volume down on that inner critical voice for a while and relaxes the mind.

Caroline Banks is an internationally exhibited professional artist who is passionate about the value of art in daily life, the joy and nourishment it brings.

As part of her practice she runs workshops giving adults the space to play with doodling and drawing in an inclusive and non-judgemental environment.

She calls it focussed play, a key to reigniting creativity.

A table or desk are fine to lean on.

All you really need are the 3 things listed below.

  • About 15 sheets of plain paper, preferably A4 minimum size. This can be copier paper, brown paper, lining paper, even a sketchbook if you have one
  • Black pens or sharp dark pencils (it can be difficult to see drawings properly on-screen)
  • An object from your home that you really like and that you can hold in your hand.
Don’t worry if this is all you have. It’s all you really need.

You may have art materials at home so bring as much as you like to the workshop – there could be something you’ve not even opened yet. Coloured crayons or felt pens are useful if you have them.
