In 2019, we were commissioned by the SMC to ascertain the relationship between mental health problems and social mobility.
Specifically, we looked at:
- the impact of depression and anxiety disorder on social mobility;
- the impact of social class on access to mental health treatment and on treatment outcome;
- the impact of mental health treatment on social mobility; and
- whether personal protected characteristics have any bearing on the relationship between mental health problems and social mobility.
As part of our research for this project, we carried out a systematic review of the literature – the first of its kind on this topic.
