We are delighted to announce the inaugural RCPsych Wales SAS Network Conference 'SAS What’s New?'.

The Conference will take place on Friday 9 May 2025 at the Clayton Hotel in Cardiff.

Whilst delegates will have the opportunity to join virtually, we do encourage as many delegates to attend in person as possible. The SAS Network Conference will be a celebration of the career development of SAS psychiatrists in Wales and the formal launch of the RCPsych Wales SAS network.

Registration is now open, and you can find further detail on the Conference webpage.

SAS Activity Updates

Dr Palmer and Dr Shaw attended the 26th SAS Doctors and Dentists Conference, 'Meeting the Challenge' on 13 February 2025 in Swansea.

They held a RCPsych stand, so were able to meet over 20 SAS psychiatrists, some of whom have been working as SAS doctors for many years, and others were new to being a SAS doctors. There was the opportunity to introduce them to the RCPsych SAS strategy and the StartWell and StayWell document as essential reading for all SAS psychiatrists.

The day was well attended. It appears that HEIW and the GMC are very aware of the difficulties SAS doctors have faced and still face in Wales. It was good to learn about some of the new opportunities they are promoting to help SAS doctors develop their careers.

These new initiatives include Portfolio Support Groups run by HEIW, trialling of CESR Rotational posts, supporting SAS doctors as recognised trainers, and SAS excellence in Development Awards for employers.

If you would like to get involved with the SAS activities within the college, please contact Alison or Jacqui on email.
