Dr Hugh Series is a consultant old psychiatrist at Oxford Health NHS FT, a member of the Law Faculty in the University of Oxford, and a medical member of the First Tier Tribunal (mental health). He divides his time between NHS work, sitting on mental health tribunal panels, and preparing reports for courts and other types of medicolegal work.

He trained in Oxford and London, with periods of research at the Karolinska Institute and Johns Hopkins University leading to a DM degree, before returning to Oxford to complete his training in psychiatry. He has worked as a consultant since 1995. In 2012 he completed an LLM at Cardiff University. He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Psychiatrists and has held a number of roles there including Chair of South Eastern Division from 2012 to 2017. He was an Honorary Senior Clinical Lecturer in the Department of Psychiatry at Oxford from 1991 to 2014.

He regularly lectures and teaches on medico-legal matters and has published over 50 papers and book chapters. He writes a large number of reports every year for medico-legal purposes.
