Dr Helen Sharrard
Divisional Recruitment Co-Lead (shared with Peninsula consultant) for the South West Division. Dr Sharrard's role is to co-ordinate the Choose Psychiatry activity in the Severn Deanery area of the South West region, chairing the Severn Choose Psychiatry Network and representing the South West Division at the central College Choose Psychiatry meetings. Her interest in promoting recruitment started when she jointly developed a teaching package on careers in mental health/psychiatry for school students.
Dr Liz Adams
Divisional Recruitment Co-Lead for the Peninsula Deanery area, Dr Adams is co-ordinating the Choose Psychiatry activities in the south of the Division and is based in Plymouth. She chairs meetings of the Choose Psychiatry Network in Devon and Cornwall, which includes links with medical schools in Exeter and Truro and Plymouth. Her interest in promoting recruitment stems from joint working with the medical school in Plymouth, in helping to identify factors to nurture budding psychiatrists, as part of the medical school’s agenda to recruit more students, to fill gaps in General Practice and Psychiatry. She meets students on placement regularly at the Glenbourne Unit, where she works, and as leader of the local Balint group for trainees has links directly with Foundation doctors, core trainees and GPVTS trainees.
Dr Jonathan Davies
Psychiatry Trainee Lead for the Severn Network. As Trainee Lead, Jonathan is responsible for attending the central Choose Psychiatry Committee meetings at the College and helping to implement the Choose Psychiatry strategy locally. His role also includes co-ordinating trainee involvement in the various recruitment projects we run across the deanery area and planning the Bristol Autumn School for foundation doctors. Jonathan also works closely with our Choose Psychiatry representatives at local hospitals to ensure that foundation doctors have up-to-date information about College initiatives.
Dr John Potokar
Dr Potokar is the Head of Psychiatry Teaching at the University of Bristol (UOB) and an Honorary Consultant in Liaison Psychiatry at the Bristol Royal Infirmary. He set up Bristol PsychSoc with Galenicals support in 2009 and has led on the curriculum changes which has seen Psychiatry move to a more spiral course within UOB with major inputs in years 2, 3 and 4. He wants all graduates to be knowledgeable, skillful and compassionate when assessing the mental health of their patients as Foundation Doctors with the wisest and most emotionally mature considering Psychiatry as their professional destiny.
