Trent PTC Trainees Conference

Dr Deepa Bagepalli-Krishnan, RCPsych Psychiatric Trainee Committee Trent Representative, opened the conference and Chaired the morning session, which had an exciting line up of speakers, and a panel discussion:

  • Dr Shahid Latif, Chair of the RCPsych Trent Division
  • Dr Rosemary Gordon, Psychiatric Trainee Committee Chair

The Recruitment and Retention Panel included:

  • Dr Debasis Das, Head of School of Psychiatry, East Midlands
  • Dr Kehinde Junaid, Director of Medical Education
  • Dr Kate Lovett, RCPsych Presidential Lead for Recruitment
  • Dr Asad Malik, Clinical Associate Sub Dean Undergraduate
  • Dr Santosh Mudholkar, RCPsych Trent Division CPD Lead and Equality Champion and also reported on the membership survey feedback.
  • Dr Niraj Singh, RCPsych Trent ID Regional Specialty Representative

Dr Emma McPhail, RCPsych Psychiatric Trainee Committee Trent Representative, Chaired the pre lunch session:

  • Professor Subodh Dave, RCPsych Dean, who spoke about integrating public mental health in training.
  • Dr Chinwe Obinwa, President of the Association of Black Psychiatrists UK, and Dr Lade Smith, Presidential Lead for Equality and Diversity, spoke about diversity and inclusivity, leadership and challenging stereotypes.

After the lunch break, delegates took part in parallel workshops on QI, Leadership and Research.

  • QI workshop, facilitated by Dr Deepa Bagepalli-Krishnan
  • Leadership workshop, facilitated by Dr Ross Runciman
  • Research workshop, facilitated by Dr Samuel Tromans.

The afternoon session was Chaired by Dr Kris Robers, RCPsych Psychiatric Trainee Committee Trent Representative, which started with a powerful talk from a Dr who shared their lived experience. 

Dr Ananta Dave spoke on Wellbeing and Dr Maurice Conlon talked to us about Practitioner Health.

Trent Medical Student Conference – October 2020

The Trent Medical Student Conference 2020 included:

  • Hearing first hand from psychiatrists from core trainee level to consultant, explaining why they're glad they chose psychiatry.
  • Two case studies which illustrate the interesting and varied decisions psychiatrists have to make about diagnosis and patient care
  • Superb talks from Dr Ahmed Hankir on Islamophobia, and RCPsych Chief Executive Paul Rees on the College's role in supporting its members.
