Mental health in an unequal world
The theme of this year’s World Mental Health Day – 10 October – was 'mental health in an unequal world'.
To mark the occasion, the College highlighted two areas in which we’re trying to make a difference.
Firstly, our Presidential lead for International Affairs, Professor Mohammed Al-Uzri did a special interview in which he discussed the barriers to mental healthcare globally, the ways in which people with mental health conditions are disadvantaged, and what the College is doing to contribute to bringing about more equitable mental healthcare.
Professor Al-Uzri and our Registrar, Dr Trudi Seneviratne OBE also attended an event at the Pakistan High Commission on Sunday, and the interview also discusses the visit.
Meanwhile, Professor Wendy Burn, the chair of the College’s Public Engagement Editorial Board and former President, wrote a great blog post highlighting how we’re developing our patient resources, which have been translated into 24 languages and accessed from 235 countries and territories so far this year.
Our International strategy
Last year the College launched its first International strategy.
The College’s aim is to engage better with our overseas members and strengthen our voice as a leading mental health organisation working to improve the standards of care for patients worldwide.
