South Asian History Month

For the second year running, the College has been celebrating South Asian History Month to honour South Asian cultures and the intertwined histories of the UK and South Asian communities.

Thousands of members have been joining our wonderful celebration by taking part in our webinars, listening to our podcasts and reading our blog posts. If you missed any of the exciting and informative features that we've been running you can catch up with them here.

• Facing COVID in the South Asian Community – this podcast discussed what it's like to have family living back in South Asia during the pandemic, the effect of COVID on deprived communities and finding solace in singing. 
• Music, Art and Neuroscience for South Asian History Month - Dr Santosh Mudholkar explores thoughts on the interaction between culture, music and the brain.

• South Asian History Month: Serendipity, stigma and beyond – Dr Trudi Seneviratne – Dr Seneviratne reflects on her early upbringing in Sri Lanka, remembers the work of Dr Anula Nikapota and talks about her recent meeting with the Duchess of Cambridge and the First Lady.

• South Asian History Month: COVID - Unity Through Adversity – chaired by College Dean Professor Subodh Dave, this webinar featured four speakers who discussed the impact and challenges of COVID-19 on South Asian doctors and clinicians in mental health trusts.
• South Asian History Month: Systemic racism and how to tackle it – chaired by College Registrar, Dr Trudi Seneviratne, this webinar featured a number of short presentations followed by an audience Q&A.
