Social prescribing position statement

The pandemic has highlighted further the impact that loneliness and isolation can have on a person's mental health.

That is why social prescribing, which fits well with the biopsychosocial model that underpins psychiatry, is such an important treatment option for clinicians to have access to when caring for people with mental health disorders.

To help in expanding its use, the College has published a Position Statement, which sets out the case for the value of social prescribing as well as providing practical advice on what is needed to make sure that its impact is maximised to the fullest.

The statement emphasises the importance of a range of social prescribing services being available in all localities for those who would benefit from it, as well as highlighting the role social prescribing can play in terms of the climate and sustainability.
