Children's Mental Health Week

Members of the College’s Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Faculty recorded a podcast to mark Children’s Mental Health Week, 1-7 February.

Dr Elaine Lockhart, chair of the faculty, was joined by Dr Guy Northover, Dr Alka Ahuja and Dr Louise Theodosiou to reflect on an account from a young man who went through the CAMHS system.

The patient, now aged in his twenties, began self-harming aged 12, and his story is both concerning and inspiring. His experiences formed the basis of a fascinating discussion.

In the podcast, they also discuss their own quite diverse childhoods, and the changes they’d like to see in terms of the mental health support available to young people, including the role that schools play.
