Over 20,000 members!

For the first time in our history, our total membership figure has climbed above 20,000.

We now have 20,030 members, with 18% of them being based outside the UK.

Our membership figure has continued to grow over the years – and back in May 1986, we had just 7,169.

By May 2001, we had 10,153 members.

By summer 2009, we had 15,101 members.

And by the summer of 2020, we had 19,148 members.

While 82% of our 20,000 members are based in the UK, the membership figures for our international divisions are:

  • West Pacific – 1,300
  • European – 950
  • Pan American – 600
  • South Asian – 390
  • Middle Eastern – 250
  • African – 120.

Our President Dr Adrian James said:

“The fact we have broken through the 20,000 barrier is incredible – and shows that we are a growing organisation supporting an ever larger number of psychiatrists worldwide.”
