CCQI EDI Month

Across the month of November, the College Centre for Quality Improvement (CCQI) has been hosting its first Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Month aimed at providing teams with ideas and resources to work towards creating more inclusive and equitable mental health services.

Earlier this year, the CCQI produced and shared updated Core Quality Standards. These have included a number of standards relating to increasing equality in our services, in particular:

  • comparing referral data with local population statistics to identify potential barriers to access and put plans in place to address these
  • moving away from antiquated standards around ‘male and female’ areas on wards and more focus on personal identity and choice
  • staff training on inequalities in access, experience and outcomes for patients with different protected characteristics.

The month has given us a chance to explore how services can embed these new standards, the potential benefits for our patients and staff and how we can create more diverse and inclusive services. This is being achieved through webinars and newsletters focusing on five key areas:

  • an introduction to inequalities in health services
  • barriers to access
  • inequalities for staff
  • gender identity
  • neurodiversity.

All webinars that have taken place so far have been recorded and are available to watch on demand via our YouTube channel. There is a final webinar scheduled to round off the month on 30 November at 2pm, which will provide a spotlight on neurodiversity. Please register on our website to watch the webinar live.
