BJPsych Bulletin welcomes new Editor-in-Chief

The RCPsych is delighted to announce the appointment of Professor Andrew Forrester as the new Editor-in-Chief of BJPsych Bulletin. Professor Forrester has taken over from Dr Norman Poole.

We would like to thank Dr Poole for his leadership of the journal since February 2018. Under his editorship the journal has seen many developments including:

  • a new PRAXIS column and competition
  • a new Cultural Reflections section
  • a renewed focus on reflective practice and reflection in general
  • digital content including videos
  • expanded interview section
  • expansion of the Editorial Board
  • highest number of article downloads for the journal
  • second only to The British Journal of Psychiatry as the most valued membership benefit (2021 Member Survey)
  • supporting trainees and training innovations
  • foregrounding ethical and philosophical issues in psychiatric practice.

Professor Forrester is a Professor of Forensic Psychiatry at Cardiff University and a Consultant Forensic Psychiatry with Swansea Bay University Health Board and Oxleas NHS Foundation Trust.

Professor Forrester brings a wealth of clinical and academic experience as well as editorial experience as Editor of the journal Medicine, Science and the Law.

Professor Forrester said:

“I am delighted with my appointment as Editor-in-Chief of BJPsych Bulletin. I will play close attention to the development needs of psychiatrists, trainees and others who are involved in the delivery of mental health services, and ensure the journal remains the go-to publication for essential everyday clinical practice issues in the field.”

“Andrew has a wealth of experience to bring to this important College publication. I’m looking forward to where he takes the journal over the course of his tenure. I have full confidence that Dr Poole is passing the Journal over to a very safe pair of hands. I’d also like to thank Norman for his immense contribution to the development of the BJPsych Bulletin over the past few years; it really has gone from strength to strength.”

Dr Forrester has been in post since Tuesday 8 November and will serve as Editor-in-Chief for an initial term of 5 years.
