Apply for the Medical Training Initiative (MTI)

The RCPsych Medical Training Initiative provides an opportunity for a small number of psychiatrists from primarily lower- and middle-income countries to train in the UK for up to two years, before returning to their home country to share knowledge, skills and experience with their peers.

The MTI scheme provides successful International Fellows with a unique opportunity to gain experience in sub-specialties, gain exposure to the NHS regulatory framework and work in a multidisciplinary team.

It also provides Employing Bodies with high quality psychiatrists with a unique insight into patient care, who can fill vacant psychiatry training posts not taken up by UK trainees.

RCPsych provides support to MTI doctors and Employing Bodies throughout the application process and placement.

Applications are now open to doctors and will close at midnight on Monday 23 January 2023.

Employing Bodies interested in hiring an MTI doctor from August 2023, are encouraged to express their interest by Monday 20 March 2023.
