Congress success

Over 2,100 members from 49 countries attended the College’s first in-person International Congress in three years, in a great celebration of learning, networking and fun.

The much anticipated event at the Edinburgh International Conference Centre consisted of 17 keynote speeches, 75 sessions and 23 fringe events, including our new Mindmasters quiz.

Other fringe events included the Congress run, yoga, and for the first time a Congress party.

The Congress started at 8.30am on Monday 20 June with the College’s Annual General Meeting – our President Dr Adrian James wrote a blog post about what happened at the AGM.

Soon after that, Adrian gave the opening lecture, to set up a fantastic four days.

As well as the keynotes, sessions and fringe event there was the marketplace with 49 exhibition stands including for the first time a special College stand housing all of the College activities in one place.

And there were 480 trainee posters to see, and 40 rapid fire presentations in the trainee area.

Not everyone was lucky enough to be able to attend the event, and for those following it from afar, the College’s @RCPsych Twitter account published over 900 tweets, and these were seen over a million times.

Here are some of the things people said about Congress:

“The best week at #RCPsychIC – full of insightful, groundbreaking and thought-provoking talks. Even as a medical student I felt valued and welcomed by everyone.”

@BeccaMedic, one of our Psych Stars 2021/22

“Incredible week at #RCPsychIC! A real privilege to attend and volunteer at the conference in my 1st year of medical school. Thank you to everyone who took the time to speak to me.”

@Aryan_AroraA

“#RCPsychIC has been incredible as was the amazing social tonight. None of this could happen without our fantastic CALC team.“

Rosemary Gordon, Chair of the RCPsych Trainees’ Committee

“Reflecting on the loveliest time at #RCPsychIC – and so many kind, humble, inspirational folks I’ve had the honour to meet. Psychiatry feels more dynamic, brave and reflective than ever. I am re-inspired and holding the hope. Thank you.”
