Our President Dr Adrian James and the rest of the Officer team are currently considering how best to take forward the proposed rule changes that were due to be voted on at our Extraordinary General Meeting (EGM) on 8 September – which was abandoned following the announcement of the death of Her Majesty The Queen part way into the meeting.
The EGM, which was being held in nine concurrent locations and linked up by IT, with 200 members in attendance, was being held to facilitate a vote on the proposals to extend voting rights to Affiliates and to enable the College to routinely hold online AGMs and EGMs.
Adrian had finished giving his speech in support of the changes, and one member in Belfast and two members in Birmingham had also spoken, when the news of The Queen's death came through.
At that stage, Adrian felt he had no choice but to call the meeting off.
We’re sorry that so many members travelled to the various venues, only for it to then be cancelled as a result of the unforeseen sad news, and we would like to offer to cover reasonable travel costs. Members can apply for a refund by emailing email@example.com.
Having given the matter consideration, Adrian and the rest of the Officer team will consult with Council and the Board of Trustees on the appropriate next steps – and our members will be updated at the earliest opportunity.
