Overview
The Patient Safety Expert Working Group's primary role is to advise the College on all aspects of patient safety. This includes: psychiatric risk assessment and management, training, practice, confidentiality, safeguarding and probity. The Group offers guidance on the development and implementation of patient safety strategies and ensures that the College maintains a leading position in these fields at the national level.
The Patient Safety Group is responsible for providing expert advice to the College, especially to the Policy and Public Affairs Committee.. It facilitates active involvement in various College activities, including Committees and Faculties and contributes to broader strategic objectives.
The group is committed to fostering a culture of co-creation in patient safety, encouraging collaborative discourse between clinicians and individuals with lived experience. This approach is vital for the creative and innovative development of ideas, working groups, and more broadly the College approach to patient safety.
This Group has pioneered the development of a co-chairing system where the Chair shares responsibilities with a co-chair who has lived experience. This reflects the Group's dedication to inclusive and diverse perspectives in decision-making.
The Working Group meets four times a year – via remote teleconference. The majority of work will be undertaken between meetings.
