The Royal College of Psychiatrists is seeking Patient and Carer representatives to join the Expert Reference Group (ERG) on historical child sexual abuse as Workers. The successful applicants will have lived experience of using mental health services or caring for someone with mental illness.

The Patient and Carer Representatives will become integral members of the ERG, using their experience and insight to advise and guide the project team on how mental health services can best respond to the impacts of historical child sexual abuse.

Experiences of sexual abuse during childhood are known to have adverse mental health outcomes in adulthood. Despite this, worker’s experiences of seeking support from mental health services is poor. The Royal College of Psychiatrists – as the UK professional body for psychiatrists – is seeking to work with those who have experienced historical child sexual abuse to improve the care and support they receive across mental health services.

The College has established this group with the aim to guide the development of a College policy statement that will make recommendations for action in relation to clinical care and commissioning guidance, teaching and training of psychiatrists, research and public policy in the context of historical childhood sexual abuse.

The Patient and Carer Representatives are expected to attend and contribute to the ERG meetings and collaborate with the group and the project team to complete the aims of the project.

We only recruit the best and in return for your commitment the College offers an attractive salary and benefits.
