The Royal College of Psychiatrists is seeking Patient and Carer representatives to join the Expert Reference Group (ERG), to develop the Physician Associates Competence Framework as Workers. The successful applicants will have experience of receiving care delivered by Physician Associates.

Physician Associates in Mental Health play an increasingly important role within the multi-disciplinary team. Physician Associates have had a role in the UK since around 2008; they are now considered key to being able to allow consultants and Specialty doctors to work to the top of their licence. The College has been promoting the role of Physician Associates in Mental Health for the last year – the development of a competency framework is part of that work with a view to increasing the numbers of Physician Associates who choose to enter mental health.

The Patient and Carer Representatives will become integral members of the ERG, using their experience and insight to advise and guide the project team on the competences required by Physician Associates/services to ensure the best care and support for those using services as well as the Physician Associates who will be delivering their care.

The Patient and Carer Representatives are expected to attend and contribute to the ERG meetings and collaborate with the group and the project team to complete the aims of the project.
