  • Salary : £140 per day and £70 per half day

The National Collaborating Centre for Mental Health is seeking two Patient Representatives to join the Safety in Mental Health Settings Evaluation Project as College Workers. The successful applicants will have lived experience of inpatient mental health services (adult acute mental health care wards or psychiatric intensive care units) within the last 5 years and within the Greater London area.

The Patient Representatives will be integral members of the project working group working with the project directors and the project team, to deliver the core aims and objectives of the evaluation project.

The aim of this evaluation project is to determine the impact of the Safety in Mental Health Services project interventions on safety and culture changes in adult acute mental health care wards and psychiatric intensive care units, with an ultimate objective to standardise and improve best practice to implement and maintain a safe environment within the settings of mental health services, for all staff who work in them and patients and carers who use these services.

We require two Patients Representatives to give sufficient weight to the tasks carried out by the project working group and to get a breadth of experience. The Patient Representatives will be required to attend a series of regular (approximately fortnightly) project meetings during this 1-year project. The Patient Representatives will co-produce the evaluation plan, co-facilitate focus groups with other people with lived experience, and co-produce the final report with the project working group.

The expertise from individuals with recent lived experience of inpatient mental health services will be absolutely essential to the development, progress and successful delivery of this project. Ideally the patient representatives will have previous involvement in health service evaluations.
