As Public Affairs and Stakeholder Manager, you’ll have to draw on all your knowledge, insight, creativity, and strategic thinking to lead the College’s work to convince politicians and other decision-makers to take the steps needed to improve mental health care. Mental health care has historically been undervalued and underfunded and it will be your job to keep it at the top of the political agenda.

Working closely with the newly appointed Director of Strategic Communications you will manage the Public Affairs and Stakeholder function to help transform the influencing work of the Royal College of Psychiatrists to deliver the College’s objectives.

You will oversee the College’s public affairs function, responsible for a direct report and working very closely with our media and policy colleagues to help ensure our voice is heard at Westminster.

This role is responsible for RCPsych's reputation devising an effective public affairs and stakeholder strategy and delivering original influencing campaigns that further its mission.

The RCPsych is an exciting organisation with a high media profile, working closely with other mental health charities, the DHSC, NHS England and Health Education England. We use our position to canvas for better funding in mental health and a stronger workforce so that we can improve patient care. We are the voice of psychiatry and standards in psychiatric care. Our public affairs reach is stronger than ever with our expertise relied upon by many MPs and Peers.

We live by our values, which means you will share a passion for RCPsych’s approach and content, across the range of our activity, as well as personal commitment to drive social change and to influence key parliamentarians.

The successful candidates will be required to undertake a Disclosure Barring Service check.

The Royal College of Psychiatrists is the professional membership body for psychiatrists and promotes excellent care for people with mental illness. It has 19,000 members and engages with government and the media as the leading voice of the UK’s mental health services. The College is a values-based organisation and, in 2019, was named Charity of the Year in the European Diversity Awards.

The College values a diverse workforce and welcomes applications from all sections of the community, reflecting the population it serves.

We are committed to building and maintaining an inclusive and supportive culture, a place where we can all be ourselves and succeed on merit. We aim to promote a more inclusive environment, which attracts all candidates and signals our commitment to celebrate and promote diversity.

We will consider putting into place appropriate reasonable adjustments for candidates who may have a disability.

We only recruit the best and in return for your commitment, the College offers an attractive salary and benefits.
