Deadlines extended

We’ve extended the deadlines for making a nomination for the RCPsych awards and entering the Morris Markowe prize. This article also reminds you about the deadline for nominations for RCPsych Fellowships.

RCPsych Awards 2020 - Extension of closing date

The RCPsych Awards mark the highest level of achievement in psychiatry.

We know that awards will not be top of your agenda at the moment but when life gets back to normal we will want something to celebrate. We have added a further extension to the closing date for entries to midnight on 11 May 2020.

We'll announce the shortlists in August and will hopefully present these to the winners at the RCPsych Awards Ceremony on Thursday 19 November at the College in London.

If we’re unable to have a ceremony, we would still like to allocate the awards to what we know will be well-deserving entries.

We will be rethinking the judging process to avoid putting pressure on clinicians.

We need your help in the search for the stars of 2020 and look forward to receiving your entries.

Morris Markowe Prize: deadline extended

We’ve extended the deadline for entering the Morris Markowe prize to 1 October 2020.

Entrants are challenged to write an original article on a psychiatric topic aimed at the general public – and they could win £1,000.

Your article should be around 1,000 words long, and be suitable for publication in a newspaper, lay journal or online.

Previous winners have covered a wide range of topics from Prince Harry’s revelations about his own mental health to the names we give to different drugs.

Fellowship nominations

We're still accepting nominations for Fellowship until 30 June 2020. This is awarded as a mark of distinction and recognition of contribution to psychiatry.

You can apply if you became a member on 1 January 2010 or before that date.

You should aim to show you’ve made significant contributions to the core purposes of the College:

  • setting standards and promoting excellence in mental health care
  • leading, representing and supporting psychiatrists
  • working with patients, carers and their organisations.

Please complete a CV form, Citation form and Good Standing form and email these by 30 June..

The College’s Nominations Committee will decide on all applications in the Autumn and you’ll be told of the outcome in October/November.
