In June 1969, the Stonewall Riots began and with it the beginning of the modern Gay Rights movement.
Now, each June, the world celebrates Pride month, to honour the anniversary of the Stonewall Uprising and the start of the modern movement for the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer (LGBTQ+) community and so many others.
The College, along with our members and staff, celebrates Pride to show continued solidarity with a community that is still facing inequalities and discrimination in all settings of their life, especially in the health sector.
Find out how we’re celebrating Pride this month and how you can get involved.
Attend our virtual Pride event
The RCPsych and Rainbow SIG are proud to present a webinar in honour of Pride month.
The webinar will be an opportunity to share and reflect on experiences of LGBTQ+ people, through personal and professional journeys.

When our President, Dr Adrian James, announced that he was running for the role in 2019, he made Equality and Diversity one of his four key priorities. Supporting the LGBTQ+ community was central to what he wanted to achieve.
Adrian has written the first of three blog posts we’ve prepared for Pride.
Listen to the podcast
This month we will be doing two podcasts – the first of which you can listen to now. We’ve spoken to Dr Sarah Stansfeld and Lesley Fraser about gay conversion therapy, active steps the government could take to support the LGBTQ+ community, and challenges for patients and staff which have arisen during the pandemic.
