Assessment strategy review

Over the past year, the College has been engaged in a far-reaching review of its approach to assessment during core and higher training.

We have been looking at both formative assessment as delivered by workplace-based assessments and summative assessment as delivered by the CASC examination.

Hundreds of International Medical Graduates shared their views on why the CASC exam is so valuable to them. Eight focus groups ran with key stakeholders from trainees, to supervisors, to the CASC panel and to patient and carer representatives. These dug into their views on a range of topics from the effectiveness of workplace-based assessments to whether CASC should remain online or revert to face to face delivery.

The final piece in the research jigsaw is a quantitative survey, to seek the view of all trainees, supervisors and examiners on these important questions.

Emails with links to these surveys went out recently. We very much want to hear from as many people as possible, as your views will help us to shape our assessments for the future, to complement the new curricula launched at the beginning of the month.
