Find out what the EGM on 8 September is about and how voting will work, take part in the pre-EGM consultation and register to attend.
Our consultation on the proposals to extend voting rights to Affiliates and enable us to hold online AGMs and EGMs – being tabled at our EGM on Thursday 8 September – will be open for just under another three weeks.
The survey will close at 9am on Monday 15 August, with the findings being published on our website in advance of the EGM, which will be held at nine parallel events.
Ipswich and Newcastle were last week the final venues to be added to the previous seven locations already announced.
Overall, the nine parallel EGM events, which will be joined up online, will be held in:
- London at our head office, 21 Prescot Street.
To attend one of the events, members must register in advance, by midday on Wednesday 7 September.
All the addresses of the events are available on the EGM section on our website.
While the EGM is listed to run between 6-9pm, if the meeting has reached a natural conclusion at an earlier stage than 9pm, votes could be called at any point before then.
The EGM is being held at parallel venues due to the College's old-fashioned rules, which do not allow it to hold AGMs or EGMs online unless the Charity Commission has given specific permission or there are exceptionally unusual circumstances.
This is one of the reasons we are proposing a rule change to enable online general meetings.
It is hoped that the different issues of extending voting rights to Affiliates and holding online AGMs and EGMs can be decided through separate votes.
Our lawyers are currently trying to draft separate resolutions, which comply with the complex requirements of the Privy Council.
If both proposals are agreed by two thirds of the voting members at the EGM, they would need to be sent back to the Privy Council for final sign off in advance of them being rolled out.
