Despite face to face meetings being banned the College is keeping up its work to influence decision makers on behalf of our members.
This week, our Registrar and President elect Dr Adrian James got a chance to meet with the Leader of the Opposition Sir Keir Starmer MP and Shadow Secretary of State for Health Jonathan Ashworth MP (virtually of course!).
Joining other health leaders, Adrian used the membership survey to let the new leader of the opposition know what our members are seeing on the ground.
He asked the Labour Party to raise our concerns with the Government about access to PPE and testing for COVID-19 as well as warning about the potential long term mental health impacts of the crisis.
Adrian also stressed the impact the crisis is having on BAME groups. We have also just submitted evidence shared by our members to two Parliamentary Select Committee inquiries.
One looking at how core NHS services are coping with the pandemic and another about how OCVID-19 is impacting people with protected characteristics.
We look forward to working more with Sir Keir, and the other political parties, and will keep up the pressure, calling for more support and resources for our members so they can deliver better mental health care.
