The Power of Silence
07 May, 2020
Silence is a very powerful tool and can be used to give several strong messages depending on how it is used in a mentoring session. It can tell a mentee that you are giving them space to think, are listening to them, that you are expecting an answer or that you are waiting for the mentee to think some more.
In a very fast paced world we don’t often have time and space in which we can think and thinking about important things takes a lot of effort. Mentees may come up with a surface answer and by using silence, the mentee is able to think more deeply. Silence after their first answer says, “I am waiting for you to think more deeply, and what else?’.
