RCPsych Curricula 2022

Implementation Hub

Welcome to the new RCPsych Curricula for 2022

On 19 October 2021, we received confirmation from the General Medical Council (GMC) that we have been granted "Approval – subject to actions" for our new curricula framework. This represents a key milestone for the College and means that we can now move towards implementation.

We have developed this hub to support implementation, and the provide information in the lead up to transition.

Please note that we are still working through our final actions for the GMC, and final published curricula will be available from January 2022.

On this hub you will be able to find:

  • Details of transition to the new framework and timescales
  • Frequently asked questions
  • Details of our weekly curricula drop-in sessions

We will continue to update this hub as we progress towards implementation with the curricula, silver guide and decision aids. If you have any queries or concerns, please contact curricula@rcpsych.ac.uk.

Curricula Implementation

The below information outlines the key components of the new curricula framework.

Our curricula framework

Our curricula framework is comprised of 4 key elements:

  • Psychiatry 'Silver Guide' - this outlines all aspects of training in Psychiatry and aligns closely to COPMeD's 'Gold Guide', and outlines the assessment strategy for Psychiatry.
  • Core, specialty and sub-specialty curricula - these outline the High Level Outcomes (HLOs) and Key Capabilities (KCs) that trainees are required to achieve by the end of the set progression point.
  • Placement Specific Personal Development Plans (PDPs) - these link to the HLOs and KCs and are completed at the start of each placement within training, and outline key activities to be undertaken, linking into the Psychiatric Supervision and Educational Supervisor Reports, and the ARCP process.
  • ARCP Decision Aids - These are guides to support ARCP panels, utilising ES and PS reports.

Curricula drop in sessions

We are holding weekly drop in sessions for trainees and trainers with any queries about the upcoming curricula changes.

Sessions will take place weekly on Thursday mornings from 10.30-11.30am via Microsoft Teams from Thursday 9 December 2021.

To book onto one of our drop-in sessions, complete our online booking form, and a member of the team will confirm with you.

Watch our curricula videos

We have developed videos about the new framework and what it means for trainees, and also guidance on setting up a placement specific personal development plan (PDP).
