What the course will cover

In this one-day training course you will review and discuss how we assess and manage people who are at risk of suicide and self-harm with particular emphasis on how we achieve empathic engagement with people who are presenting with complex mental health problems.

You will address:

  • Engaging patients and service users who are at risk- the key communication skills
  • Skills and strategies to use in assessment and management
  • How to use video-feedback sensitively and effectively to teach these skills and strategies routinely to our trainees

You will learn through a range of approaches including brief talks, discussion, role-play and video feedback. You will work with real clinical case studies that you and your peers bring along on the day.
