The Royal College of Psychiatrists Improving the lives of people with mental illness

Mental health spending

We analysed NHS England's latest ‘dashboard’ of statistical information on the NHS and found that of the 44 Sustainability and Transformation Plan (STP) areas, four are investing less in mental health care this year (2016-17) compared to last year (2015-16).

This despite the fact mental health is supposed to be the “golden thread” that runs through the STP plans.

Those STPs are: Dorset; Milton Keynes, Beds and Luton; Bucks, Oxon and Berks West; and Northamptonshire.

Our analysis was highlighted by the Health Service Journal last month.
